The Promenade
The Promenade links the historic breakwater to Logans Beach. The sealed pathway starts with great views at the 1890 Breakwater, passes Lake Pertobe, follows around Lady Bay (it can be tempting to divert to the beach), crosses the mouth of the Hopkins River estuary, and ends at the whale nursery at Logans Beach. The path is suitable for all forms of wheeled transport including bikes, rollerblades, wheelchairs and pushers.
Lake Pertobe
The Lake Pertobe Adventure is paradise for kids with giant slides, flying foxes, a maze and boat rides. There are lovely walking tracks around the lakes, and the park features delightful picnic areas and sheltered BBQ facilities. The Lake Pertobe precinct is also home to other sporting facilities including tennis courts, mini golf, an athletics track and a skateboard park.
CBD Heritage Trail
Warrnambool is home to many historic buildings and the CBD has a cluster of sites and heritage buildings that have been linked in a three-km trail that wanders through the city streets. There are fine churches, hotels and examples of 19th century commercial and civic architecture dating back to the 1850s.
The Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail
A 37 km rail trail, suitable for cyclists and walkers, follows the route of the disused railway line that loops between Port Fairy, Koroit and Warrnambool skirting the northern side of Tower Hill. There are three main trailheads: at the Warrnambool Breakwater, at Koroit, and at the visitor information centre at Port Fairy.The route travels through farming country, woodlands, wetlands and sand dunes. There are views of Tower Hill, the Merri River and great sea views.

Thunder Point Coastal Walk
The Thunder Point walk is an outstanding walk alongside the coast and coastal wetlands, with great views of the Merri River estuary, and a rocky shoreline. From the Breakwater walk towards the river and the white sands of tiny Stingray Bay at the river mouth. During low tide, this sheltered area is ideal for a swim or a picnic. A footbridge takes you across the river to Thunder Point Coastal Reserve with its weathered sandstone cliffs and rockpools. The walk continues to Pickering Point and Shelly Beach.
Mahogany Trail
The 22 km Mahogany Trail is primarily a beach walk running between Warrnambool and Port Fairy. The demanding trail follows the coast where early Europeans sighted wreckage believed to be a Portuguese caravel from the early 1500s. The wreck became known as 'The Mahogany Ship'. Mysteriously, the wreckage disappeared, possibly covered by sand or washed out to sea - possibly waiting to be discovered again.
