Get Around Warrnambool - Lounge Fest

Eighteen bands and musicians with ties to Warrnambool will perform at the city’s first online music festival on Easter Saturday from 6pm.

Get Around Warrnambool – Lounge Fest will be simultaneously broadcast on Facebook and COAST FM, providing listeners with a free online gig they can enjoy at home.

The event will feature recorded performances from 4 Wide, Cooper Lower, Flynn Gurry, Gabby Steel, Glenn Kelly, Jason Bull, Kayla Dwyer, Lousie Ryan, Mick Ferguson, Mitch & Jackson, Nancie Schipper, The Alamo, The Find Your Voice Chior, The Motorvators, Tom Richardson, Trev & Mel, Wade Northcott and Willnko.

The event is a collaboration between local resident Karen Thomson, Warrnambool City Council, ACE Radio and Fitz Media in support of the local creative industry.

“This virtual concert is about connecting the community whilst showing support for local venues and the musicians that bring us joy,” Ms Thomson said.

“We need more than ever to counterbalance the heaviness in our news with unity, happiness and hope. What better way than through music?

“This Easter let’s come together from afar and shift our current reality for a moment in time from collective trauma to collective triumph.

“Whilst we are not together physically, we are all in this together so - Get Around Warrnambool!”

All musicians will be paid for their performances, and those listening at home will be encouraged to donate to Support Act, Australia’s only charity delivering crisis relief services to artists, crew and music workers.

Warrnambool Mayor Tony Herbert encouraged everyone to tune in.

“Even though we can’t go out and see local musicians perform live right now, this is the next best thing,” he said.

“One aspect that hasn’t been talked about a lot is the way COVID-19 has effected arts and culture. Our galleries, theatres and music venues have all had to close, leaving a big hole in people’s lives.
